Acquired for Salisbury Cathedral by Humphrey Henchman, Bishop of Salisbury, in 1662. The book cost 40 shillings, and the Great Seal cost £7. Carriage was extra. See Salisbury, Cathedral Archive, BS/1/25/1, a letter from Henchman to James Harris, 13 April 1663, informing him that the book will arrive by wagon.

Contemporary mid-17th-century brown reverse calf over paper boards; sewn on seven supports; boards decorated with blind fillets forming rectangular frame towards perimeter of boards, with inner frame of blind rolls with blind ornaments at outer corners; spine with seven raised bands, and blind ornaments; gilt roll around board edges; text block edges marbled; heavy braided green ribbon attached at tail of spine, above tail-band. Now in archival card box.

This is a "sealed" Book of common prayer, royal folio, with manuscript corrections. Gathering Ss, with state services, is not present. Gathering 2A, at the end of the volume, contains: printed certificate by the bishops of Canterbury province (2A1r), printed certificate by the proctors of Canterbury province (2A1v, 2A2r, 2A2v); printed certificate by the bishops of York provice (2A3r); and printed certificate by the proctors of York province (2A3v). Below the last certificate, on leaf 2A3v, are the seals and signatures of seven commissioners. Leaf 2A4 is blank. The Great Seal is not present, but the letter from Henchman in the Cathedral Archive indicates that it was present in 1663.
