Provenance

Inscription in brown ink on title page: "Amicissimo Iohanni Philippo Palthenio editor. In memoriam amicitiae nostrae". At the bottom of the title page is the inscription "I P Palthenius". This would indicate that the book was given to the Western Pomerian historian and philologist Johann Philipp Palthen (1672-1710) by the editor Edward Thwaites.

Provenance

The book was later owned by George Moberly, Bishop of Salisbury. Inscription on upper endleaf: "George Moberly Copenhagen July 1832. Book label on upper pastedown: "E libris Georgii Moberly, J.C.D. Episcopi Sarisburiensis 1869-1885". There appears to have been an earlier bookplate on the pastedown, which was removed.

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (20th century, large format) with design based on the Dean and Chapter seal, and inscription “Sarvm Cathedral Library.” on upper endleaf.

17th-century [?] parchment over paper boards; smooth spine; text block edges stained green.
