Cheap-side crosse censured and condemned : by a letter sent from the vicechancellour and other learned men of the famous Vniversitie of Oxford, in answer to a question propounded by the citizens of London, concerning the said crosse, in the yeere 1600, in which yeer it was beautified, as also some divine arguments taken out of a sermon against the crosse, a little after it was last repaired, by a learned and godly minister, M. 17th-century mottled brown calf; sewn on four supports; blind fillets forming rectangular frame on boards, with additional vertical blind fillet just inside spine edge; blind stamps at inner corners of frame; blind roll around board edges; spine with four raised bands, blind rolls at head and tail, and gilt fillets; evidence of spine label with title (now missing); “1659” in gilt at foot of spine; text block edges sprinkled red and blue; leaves of blank paper are bound between some of the items; items show evidence of previous stab stitching.
