Title

A declaration and protestation of the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament to this Kingdom, and to the whole world. : Wherein (amongst divers of his Majesties late illegall proceedings) is discovered, how severall commissions, under the Kings authority, have bin grante to many profest papists (herein nominated) for places of command in this war, with power to raise men and armes, which in sundry places they have performed. Also how Sir Iohn Hinderson, and Colonell Cockram were sent to Hamburg and Denmark to raise forces there, and in other forraigne parts to bring into this kingdome; with the names of some who have beene proclaimed rebels in Ireland, now in great favour with His Majesty. For which and other reasons they are resolved to enter into a solemne oath and covenant with God, and will to the uttermost of their powers, with the hazard of their lives and fortunes defend the truth against the Kings Popish army, and all that joyne with them in the presecution of this wicked designe. Ordered by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, that this declaration shall be forthwith printed and published, and read in all churches and chappels within the kingdome of England and Dominion of Wales, by the parsons vicars, or curates of the same. Late 17th-century mottled brown calf; sewn on five supports; blind fillets and rolls forming two concentric rectangular frames on boards, with blind stamps at outer corners of inner frame, and with additional vertical blind roll at spine edge; gilt roll around board edges; spine with five raised bands, blind fillets and rolls, and blind stamps; leather spine label with "Political Tracts"; paper spine label with “1640-48”; “1504” in gilt at foot of spine; text block edges sprinkled red; two leaves of blank paper are bound between each item; items show evidence of previous stab stitching.
