Identified by David Selwyn as having belonged to Edmund Guest (1514?-1577), with pressmark C31 and fore-edge title. The cropped remains of "Gest" can be seen on the title page. Manuscript notes in Guest's hand (upside down in relation to the text) are on the original final free endleaf.

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (20th century), cut down, with design based on the Dean and Chapter seal, and inscription “Sarvm Cathedral Library.”

Binding

16th-century dark brown calf over paper boards; repaired July 1947; blind fillets and roll forming concentric rectangular frames on boards (roll identified by Selwyn as Oldham HM.h.(29), tentatively attributed by Pearson to Nicholas Spierinck), with blind stamps at inner corners and centre of frame; spine with four raised bands, and blind fillets at head and tail; title and pressmark C31 in ink on fore-edge; parchment manuscript waste (identified by Selwyn as leaves from a 14th-century English copy of Jacobus de Voragine, Legenda Aurea) used as pastedowns (now unstuck); original and modern free endleaves.
