16th-century dark brown calf over pasteboards; sewn on four tanned leather supports; blind fillets forming rectangular frame towards perimeter of boards, enclosing blind panel stamps with heads in medallions (identified by Selwyn as Oldham HM.11/12), both signed MD (for Martin Dature); spine with four raised bands and blind fillets; remains of red ties; printed waste used as endleaves (leaves from Richard Tavener, The garden of wysdom (London, 1539); ESTC S111348; STC (2nd edition) 23711a ); strips of parchment manuscript waste used as endleaf guards; titles and pressmark (B54) in ink on fore-edge.
