Provenance
Inscription on leaf a1r: "Thom. Luck Kingsbury Bathwick Priory Bath.".
Provenance
Inscription on label on upper pastedown, in the hand of Robert Quirk: "From the Kingsbury Library at the Bishops Palace Sarum. On loan. 1 Nov. 1943". Upon Kingsbury's death in 1899, some of his books were given to Salisbury Cathedral Library; some were given to the Bishop of Salisbury, and formed the "Kingsbury Library" in the Bishop's Palace, and some went elsewhere. It would appear from this label that this book was one of those given to the Bishop.
Provenance
Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (20th century, large format) with design based on the Dean and Chapter seal, and inscription “Sarvm Cathedral Library.” on upper pastedown.
Binding
Late 15th-century German reddish-brown calf over wooden boards; sewn on four tawed split thongs; intersecting blind fillets forming rectangular frame towards perimeter of upper board, filled with blind crocketed ogives and blind stamps; blind intersecting fillets forming rectangular frame towards perimeter of lower board, filled with blind diaperwork and blind stamps; spine with four raised bands; metal clasp fastenings on upper and lower boards (showing that the clasps ran from the lower to the upper board); remains of leather clasps; parchment lower free endleaf; later paper spine label with title in manuscript.
