Below the bookplate is the inscription: "Presented by Miss Frances Awdry. August 1955".

Binding

20th-century brown leather, with portions of an earlier binding pasted to the boards and spine. The earlier binding is reddish-brown calf, possibly dating from the latter half of the 17th century. Decoration includes multiple blind fillets forming a rectangular border towards the perimeter, with a frame of gilt fillets, with gilt stamps and inner and outer corners. There is a central gilt stamp of a bishop, with small circular stamps on either side, and the initials MASS. Evidence of two ties at fore-edge. Modern endleaves.

Copy-specific note
