Provenance
Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (20th century, large format) with design based on the Dean and Chapter seal, and inscription “Sarvm Cathedral Library.” has been pasted over an earlier bookplate on the upper pastedown. Below the bookplate is the inscription: "Presented by Miss Frances Awdry. August 1955".
Binding
20th-century brown leather, with portions of an earlier binding pasted to the boards and spine. The earlier binding is reddish-brown calf, possibly dating from the latter half of the 17th century. Decoration includes multiple blind fillets forming a rectangular border towards the perimeter, with a frame of gilt fillets, with gilt stamps and inner and outer corners. There is a central gilt stamp of a bishop, with small circular stamps on either side, and the initials MASS. Evidence of two ties at fore-edge. Modern endleaves.
Copy-specific note
An extract from Leviticus is written in brown ink on the title page verso; a prayer is written in a different hand on the verso of the final leaf.
