In pencil on page 28: "C. J. S. Roberson. February 25th. 1821." In pencil on page 87: "C. J. S." In pencil on page 140: "C. J." Charles James Scholey Roberson (1807-1879) was one of the 8 choristers listed at Christ Church, Oxford in both 1820 and 1822; he was also a chorister at St. John's College, Oxford, William Cross (1777-1825) being organist of both Christ Church and St. John's College at this time; see: The Oxford University calendar [of] 1820, corrected to December 31, 1819 (pages 221 and 242), and, The Oxford University calendar [of] 1822, corrected to December 31, 1821 (pages 231 and 252).

Provenance

Bequeathed to the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle by Brigadier Tim Hackworth, military knight of Windsor and a direct descendant of Joseph Corfe (1740-1820) and Arthur Thomas Corfe (1773-1863); subsequently donated by the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle to Salisbury Cathedral Library, with the agreement of the family of the late Brigadier Hackworth.

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (20th century, reprinted 2019) with design based on the Dean and Chapter seal, and inscription “Sarvm Cathedral Library.”

Binding

Probably 19th-century; half-bound in brown reverse calf; boards originally covered with paper (now missing); red goatskin ownership label on upper board: "Christ Church".
