Binding

16th-century dark brown calf over paper boards; sewn on four tawed leather supports; boards decorated with fillets forming two concentric rectangular frames, with blind fleur-de-lis stamps at outer corners of inner frame, and central silver lozenge stamp; spine with four raised bands, blind fillets and blind stamps; blind hatching at head and tail of spine; remains of two pairs of ties at fore-edge; parchment manuscript waste used as endleaf guards (identified by David Selwyn as framents from a 14th- or 15th-century obit book from the abbey of Hyde); pressmark F59 in ink on fore-edge.
