Note
Miss Mary Ann Wilson was born in 1802. She made her operatic début at Drury Lane on 18th January, 1821 when, to much critical acclaim, she sang the rôle of Mandane in Artaxerxes by Arne. She was a singing pupil of Thomas Welsh whom she married on 9th June, 1827 at St. Augustine's Church, Watling Street, City of London; see also: Maclean, Charles, "Sir George Smart, musician-diarist", page 306, footnote 1, in Sammelbände der Internationalen Musikgesellschaft, 10. Jahrgang, Heft 2 (Jan.-Mar., 1909). As Mary Ann Welsh, "formerly of 1 Queen's-gardens, Bayswater," she died at Taywell House, Goudhurst, Kent on 13th December, 1867, aged 65. Presently, her name is usually recorded thus: Mary Anne Wilson, but sources of her own time seem generally to prefer: Mary Ann Wilson.
Note
The firm of Chappell & Co., 50, New Bond Street was active from at least as early as 24th April, 1820 (see that day's issue of The Morning Post, page [1]). The descriptor, "Music-sellers to his Majesty" or closely similar, appears to have been used by Chappell and Co. during the earlier part of George IV's reign; see, for example, The Morning Post, March 2, 1822, page [1], and, The New Times, March 22, 1824, page [1].
