'The Gipsy's Warning' opened at Drury Lane on 19th April, 1838 with Miss Romer as 'Marie'. Mrs. Alfred Shaw sang 'Scenes of my youth' at a benefit concert given at Her Majesty's Theatre, Haymarket for the Fund for the Relief of Decayed Musicians on 4th May, 1838. In May 1838 'Scenes of my youth' was published by Cramer and Co.; see, for example, the Windsor and Eton Express, May 12, 1838, page [1].
Note
Emma Romer was baptized at St. Andrew's, Holborn on 20th November, 1813. She married George Almond at St. James's Church, Piccadilly on 15th September, 1835 but thereafter continued to be known, professionally, as Miss Romer. She died at Margate in April 1868.
Note
Mrs. Alfred Shaw, contralto, was born Mary Postans on 8th July, 1814. She married Alfred Shaw at St. Helen's Church, York on 14th September, 1835. Alfred Shaw died, aged 36, in 1847 after which the widowed Mrs. Mary Shaw married John Frederick Robinson of Hadleigh, Suffolk on 11th June, 1851. As Mary Robinson she died, aged 62, on 9th September, 1876.

One of a large collection of music prints bound together. Many of these prints bear the signature: J. E. Cother [Jane Elizabeth Cother]. Jane Elizabeth Cother (ca. 1818-1899) married Charles William Corfe (1814-1883) on 7th July, 1842. Following C. W. Corfe's death, she married George Thomas Miles on 22nd January, 1885. As Jane Elizabeth Miles, she died on 29th April, 1899, aged 81.
