A "Grand Dramatic Festival" was given at the Park Theatre, New York on 29th November, 1832 during which "Miss Hughes, formerly of Covent Garden Theatre, sung 'The Mermaid's Cave,' in which she was accompanied by C. Horn, on the pianoforte."--Weekly Times, no. 338, December 23, 1832, page [3].

Mrs. Wood sang 'The Mermaid's Cave' by C. Horn at the Liverpool Musical Festival of 1836; it was given during the concert of 6th October, 1836; see, The Liverpool Standard and General Commercial Advertiser, October 7, 1836, page 7.

Note

Mrs. Wood was born Mary Anne (sometimes Mary Ann) Paton in 1802. She married Lord William Pitt Lennox, apparently in 1824, in obscure circumstances. In Edinburgh, she secured a decree of divorce from Lennox on 26th February, 1831 and, less than a week later, married Joseph Wood in Marylebone. As Mary Anne Wood she died on 21st July, 1864.

Inscription, in ink, at head of title page: "J. E. Cother" [Jane Elizabeth Cother]. Jane Elizabeth Cother (ca. 1818-1899) married Charles William Corfe (1814-1883) on 7th July, 1842. Following C. W. Corfe's death, she married George Thomas Miles on 22nd January, 1885. As Jane Elizabeth Miles, she died on 29th April, 1899, aged 81.

Bequeathed to the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle by Brigadier Tim Hackworth, military knight of Windsor and a direct descendant of Joseph Corfe (1740-1820) and Arthur Thomas Corfe (1773-1863); subsequently donated by the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle to Salisbury Cathedral Library, with the agreement of the family of the late Brigadier Hackworth.
