Note

Incorrectly attributed to Franz Schubert (D. Anh.I,31); in fact by August Heinrich von Weyrauch. Originally published ca. 1824 with a German text and entitled 'Nach Osten!'. Some years later published in Paris with a French text and entitled 'Adieu!', the text, attributed to Édouard Bélanger, commencing "Voici l'instant suprême".

Note

At foot of page 4: Wessel & [blank] No. 6 Frith Street. Soho Square.

Note

Christian Rudolph Wessel (ca. 1796-1885) was trading at 6, Frith Street by May 1822 (see, for example, The Morning Herald, May 31, 1822, page [1]), continuing there until 1838 or 1839. By November 1839 he was trading at 67, Frith Street (see, for example, The Court Gazette, and Fashionable Guide, November 9, 1839, page 539). J. Alfred Novello had previously traded at this address. Between 1840 and 1845, C. R. Wessel was trading in partnership with Frederic Stapleton; their partnership was dissolved on 17th March, 1845. C. R. Wessel's business had moved to 229, Regent Street by June 1846 (see, for example, The Railway Bell, May 30, 1846, page 1050). As this print bears the addresses 67, Frith Street on page 1, 6, Frith Street on page 4, it appears that this print must have been printed by the time of C. R. Wessel's removal from the one address to the other although not issued before 1839.

Note

William Price Aylward (ca. 1811-1890), musician and music seller of Salisbury, was in business as a music seller by 19th June, 1834, as is recorded at the time of the baptism of his first child. His business was located at premises on New Canal by or before 1839; see: Robson's Directory for that year.
