George Shade [senior] died, aged 78, on 19th March, 1857; he died at his son-in-law's residence in Egremont, Cheshire. His music selling business was operating from premises in Soho Square by April 1818; see: The New Times, April 23, 1818, page [1]. He continued in business in Soho Square until January 1838 or later; see: The Morning Herald, January 31, 1838, page 2. Before moving to Soho Square, George Shade [senior] had been in business initially at 26, Princes Street, Cavendish Square, then at 9, Charles Street, Soho. At some point between January 1838 and January 1841, George Shade [senior] moved to Liverpool where his business operated from 4, Berry Street. George Shade [junior] (1804-1878), the first son of George Shade [senior], worked throughout his life as an engraver, initially at Charlotte Street, Fitzroy Square, latterly at 32, Percy Street, off Tottenham Court Road; he does not appear to have been a music seller.
