John Duff (1799-1867) and Charles Hodgson (died 15th January, 1873, aged 72) were trading as Duff and Hodgson, 65, Oxford Street by December 1837; see: The Morning Herald, December 19, 1837, page 8. They carried on business at that address until at least 1862. In November 1862, the business, trading as Challen, Duff, and Hodgson, is recorded at 20, Oxford Street where they traded as piano manufacturers.

Inscription, in ink, at head of title page: "J. E. Cother April 19th 1839". Jane Elizabeth Cother (ca. 1818-1899) married Charles William Corfe (1814-1883) on 7th July, 1842. Following C. W. Corfe's death, she married George Thomas Miles on 22nd January, 1885. As Jane Elizabeth Miles, she died on 29th April, 1899, aged 81.
