The theoretical works of Albrechtsberger, "translated from the last German Edition by Arnold Merrick, Esq.; in 2 vols. 8vo. of nearly 800 pages" was announced as "New music ... ... published by R. Cocks and Co., 20, Princes-street, ...; sold also by Simpkin and Marshall ... ." in January 1835; see, for example, John Bull, January 4, 1835, page [1]. See also vol. I., page [xli]: R. Except that the establishment was moved to New Burlington-street about 1844, the business has been continued ever since ... ."
Note
Frontispiece of vol. I.: a portrait: "Georg Albrechtsberger" by "M. Gauci lith"; printed by Graf & Soret.
Note
The lithographer, M. Gauci, is probably identical with Maxim, otherwise, Massimo Gauci. Maxim Gauci died on 3rd November, 1854, aged 78, at No. 9, North Crescent, Bedford Square, London; see, for example, The Sun, November 17, 1854, page [4].
Note
The printers of the portrait, Graf & Soret, were in partnership as lithographic printers between February 1832 and June 1836. In February 1832, Jérémie Graf (1782-1861) and James Lewis Soret (born 1804) took over the London partnership: Société [Godefroy] Engelmann, [Jérémie] Graf, [John Francis] Coindet et Cie., which was dissolved on 28th January, 1832; see: London Gazette, issue no. 18907, February 1832, page 422. The partnership of [J.] Graf and [J. L.] Soret was dissolved in 1836; see: The St. James's Chronicle, and General Evening Post, June 7 to June 9, 1836, page [1]. Jérémie Graf was born in Mulhouse, Alsace on 18th February, 1782; having resided in London for some years, he appears to have returned to Mulhouse in 1842 or 1843 where he died on 3rd July, 1861. James Lewis Soret was born in Hackney, London on 8th September, 1804; his family appears to have had ties with Geneva: his father, James Soret, died in the district of La Forêt, Petit-Saconnex, Geneva on 11th January, 1852.
Note
At foot of vol. I., page 335: T. P. Baily, printer, Cirencester; on verso of title page of vol. II.: Cirencester : printed by Thomas Philip Baily. Thomas Philip Baily was born on 8th December, 1796 and baptized at Calne, Wiltshire on 18th January, 1797; he died at Cirencester on 6th September, 1859 "in his 63d year."
Note
Engraved music in vol. II.; at foot of vol. II., page 1: engraved by M. Trenklee. Michael Trenklee, music engraver, is recorded as residing at 32 Whitehart Street, Kennington Road, Surrey [London] in 1841; he had removed to George Yard, Princes Street, Soho by 1848; he died in that area late in 1849.
