This song was sung at the inaugural banquet of the incoming Sheriffs of London and of Middlesex, Alderman de Keyser and Joseph Savory, Joseph Savory being Lady Mary Elvey's brother; this event took place at Goldsmith's Hall on 6th December, 1882; G. J. Elvey, who had composed the song for the occasion, was also present; see, for example: The Daily Chronicle and Clerkenwell News, December 7, 1882, page 6.
