Title

Domine salvum fac [music manuscript].

Imprint

[S.l.] : [s.n.], [s.d.]

Physical description

1 part of music (soprano of the chorus) ([4 unnumbered pages]) ; 30 cm

Note

A bifolium forming 4 pages of 12-stave manuscript paper.

Note

At head of the first page: "Chorus - Soprano." This is a manuscript copy of the choral soprano part only from a setting of 'Domine salvum fac Regem nostrum Georgium' in G major; the music occupies 2 and a half of the 4 pages of manuscript paper, the remaining 1 and a half pages being blank, apart from the staves.

Note

Text: Domine salvum fac Regem nostrum Georgium. Et exaudi nos in die qua invocaverimus te. [Quartetto. Andante. 73 bars tacet.] Sicut erat in principio et nunc et semper et in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.

Note

Clearly and accurately written by the scribe (the only error is the omission of "flags" from a couple of notes in the last bar of line 10 of page 2), the paper and writing style may be early 19th century, moreover, the use of the term "Quartetto" is apt for that period; the musical style, in so far as it can be ascertained, is Haydnesque. The text "Regem nostrum Georgium" refers, perhaps, either to King George III or to King George IV.

Provenance

Bequeathed to the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle by Brigadier Tim Hackworth, military knight of Windsor and a direct descendant of Joseph Corfe (1740-1820) and Arthur Thomas Corfe (1773-1863); subsequently donated by the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle to Salisbury Cathedral Library, with the agreement of the family of the late Brigadier Hackworth.

Provenance

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (20th century, reprinted 2019) with design based on the Dean and Chapter seal, and inscription “Sarvm Cathedral Library.”

Copy-specific note

Inscription at head of the first page: "2/24".
