Swire is probably identical with John Swire (1847-1902) who was at Magdalen College, Oxford, successively as chorister, academical clerk, and student between 1857 and 1869, John Stainer being organist of Magdalen College from 1860 until 1872; this same John Swire was made deacon in the Church of England on 21st December, 1871 and, a year later, ordained priest.
