Provenance

The score has been covered with a buff-coloured paper cover; at the head of the upper cover the inscription: "The modern organist No. 11" and, apparently in a different hand: "T. E. Chantler All Souls' 1922". Additionally, a rectangle of paper has been pasted onto the buff-coloured paper cover upon which is written again the title, together with a list of contents and the signature: "SB".

At the end of his life, T. E. (Thomas Edwin) Chantler (1850-1923), was organist of All Souls' Church, Grosvenor Park, Camberwell; at the census taken on 19th June, 1921, he described himself as "organist" employed by "Revd. [Henry Grant] Baker. All Souls Camberwell". The church of All Souls, Grosvenor Park, stood in that place between 1871 and 1973.

The Beale family resided at 115 Grosvenor Park, London S.E.5. from at least as early as 1901 until about 1929; of the 3 members of the family it was the son, Shirley John Martin Beale, who inscribed his initials and his name on this publication.

Bequeathed to the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle by Brigadier Tim Hackworth, military knight of Windsor and a direct descendant of Joseph Corfe (1740-1820) and Arthur Thomas Corfe (1773-1863); subsequently donated by the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle to Salisbury Cathedral Library, with the agreement of the family of the late Brigadier Hackworth.
