Printed on 56 sheets, each folded to form four pages (folio). The two outer pages of each sheet are printed as two folio pages; the inner two as an oblong broadsheet. Most sheets have text on the outer pages and an engraved map on the inner pages. A few sheets have text on the inner and outer pages.

Note

The text pages on the versos of the maps of Spain have no woodcut initials; the text pages of all other maps have woodcut initials.

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (19th century) with 13th-century Dean and Chapter seal and inscription “Sarum Cathedral Library.”

Provenance

Suzanne Eward, former Librarian of Salisbury Cathedral, suggested that this copy may have been owned by Seth Ward (1617-1689).

Binding

19th-century half tan calf over paper boards; boards covered with marbled paper; smooth spine with blind rolls and gilt fillets; text block edges stained red; title and (incorrect) date 1565 in gilt on spine; each sheet of the text block has been set in on guards.
