Provenance

Inscription, in pencil, at head of page 1: "This - Miss Harington 2d part". The identity of Miss Harington is not certainly known. It is possible that she was a sister of the Revd. Edward Charles Harington (ca. 1804-1881). The Revd. Joseph Corfe (1805-1878) was appointed Priest Vicar of Exeter Cathedral in 1836; he remained at Exeter Cathedral until his death. His sisters, Anne Corfe, later, Angel (1812-1870) and Mary Ann Corfe were both residing in Exeter at the home of their brother in 1841. Joseph Corfe (1805-1878) was a student at Oxford during the 1820s at much the same time as Edward Charles Harington. E. C. Harington was ordained priest in 1829 by the Bishop of Exeter and in 1845 E. C. Harington was collated as a Prebendary of Exeter Cathedral; in 1847 he was made Chancellor of Exeter Cathedral. Miss Harington may be one of E. C. Harington's sisters, two of whom, namely, Frances Hatton Harington, later, Holroyd (1801-1874), and, Ann Elizabeth Harington (ca. 1803-1870), were living at their brother's home in 1841, in fact, both sisters lived in Exeter for most of their adult lives.

Provenance

Stamped in gold letters on the upper board of this bound collection: "M. A. Corfe." This is Mary Ann Corfe (1797-1849), eldest child of Arthur Thomas Corfe and his wife, Frances, née Davies. Inscription, in ink, on upper endleaf of this bound collection: "C. W. Corfe Oxon."

Provenance

Bequeathed to the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle by Brigadier Tim Hackworth, military knight of Windsor and a direct descendant of Joseph Corfe (1740-1820) and Arthur Thomas Corfe (1773-1863); subsequently donated by the Archives of St. George's Chapel, Windsor Castle to Salisbury Cathedral Library, with the agreement of the family of the late Brigadier Hackworth.

Provenance

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (20th century, reprinted 2019) with design based on the Dean and Chapter seal, and inscription “Sarvm Cathedral Library.”

19th-century; this collection must have been bound after 1830 as it contains a solo from 'Norma' by Bellini, first performed in 1831; now in archival box.
