Douglas Richard Carrington (1926-2012) was, by profession, a dental surgeon; he also had extensive knowledge of organs, particularly those located in the North-West of England; he was editor of the journal 'The Organ' from 1981 until 1993.

Note, in ink, in the hand of Suzanne Eward, former Librarian of Salisbury Cathedral, pasted on upper pastedown: "Given by Mrs Gillian Moore, grand-daughter of Sir Walter Alcock July 1997". Mrs. Gillian Moore is probably identical with Mrs. Gillian Mary Moore (born Gillian Mary Hall in 1936 in Western Australia); Gillian Mary Hall is the daughter of the Revd. Philip Humphrey Hall (died 1987) and his wife, Marjorie Constance (1896-1980); Mrs. Marjorie Constance Hall was born Constance Marjorie Alcock; she was one of Walter Galpin Alcock's 6 daughters.
