Provenance

Inscription, in ink, at head of upper pastedown: "Miss Sharpe Edmonton". Magdalen Sharpe was born on 17th March, 1804 in Edmonton, Middlesex; she was the daughter of the Revd. Lancelot Sharpe, Rector of All Hallows Staining, City of London, and his wife, Jane Mary (maiden name, Harrison). The family had a residence at the Shrubbery, Lower Edmonton, Middlesex and there Mrs. Jane Mary Sharpe died on 3rd June, 1823. Magdalen Sharpe married the Revd. James Lloyd Wallace (1804-1843) on 1st January, 1828; both bride and groom were of the Parish of All Saints, Edmonton. The Revd. James Lloyd Wallace became Master of Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Sevenoaks; he and Magdalen were living in Sevenoaks at the time of his death. The widowed Mrs. Magdalen Wallace resided in several places after her husband's death. She spent her last years living in Oxford, at 14, The Crescent, Park Town where she died on 2nd December, 1880.
