16th-century French binding; brown calf over pasteboard (i.e. paste-laminate board); sewn on four supports; boards covered with blind tooling, consisting of a rectangular frame at outer edges of boards, within which is a wide roll forming a frame filled in with two perpendicular rows each of two rolls, one of flies, and the other of flowers; raised bands; blind fillets and hatching on spine; later gilt fillets on spine; spine label with author and title; fore-edge title and press mark (S14). Possibly bound in Paris, see Selwyn.
