Reproduction note

Microfilm. Woodbridge, CT Research Publications, Inc., 1990. 1 reel ; 35mm. (The Eighteenth Century ; reel 4050, no. 05).

Provenance

Inscription on lower endleaf: "Hawes"; armorial bookplate of Reverend Herbert Hawes, with address “Rollestone Street, Salisbury.” on upper pastedown, now obscured by Cathedral Library bookplate.

Provenance

Salisbury Cathedral Library bookplate (19th century) with 13th-century Dean and Chapter seal and inscription “Sarum Cathedral Library.”

Binding

18th-century brown sheepskin over rope-fibre boards; blind fillets forming rectangular frame towards edges of boards; five raised bands; gilt roll around board edges; text block edges sprinkled red.

Copy-specific note

Imperfect: wanting title page, and all before leaf A3. The Cathedral Library card catalogue identifies this as the edition printed by Jacob Tonson and John Watts in 1722 (ESTC T132718). The ESTC record for this includes a final advertisement leaf, which is not in the copy in hand. ESTC T132371 (printed by Jacob and Richard Tonson and John Watts in 1741) gives similar pagination to the copy in hand, and also notes that the text on pages 306 and 307 have been transposed, which is also the case here.
