Documents catalogued within this 'Bishop' section contain, on the whole, not records created by the Bishop directly but records accumulated by the cathedral during the course of its interaction with the Bishop or documents generated by the cathedral during the course of a vacancy in the bishopric. The personal records of individual bishops and the records of the Bishop's Office do not form part of the cathedral archive but are kept with the diocesan archives at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre.
The Bishop section currently contains the following series of records: Individual Bishops (BS/1), Vacancies of the Bishopric (BS/2), Citations from the Dean for the Election of a New Bishop (BS/3), Requests from the Dean for Royal Licences to Elect a New Bishop (BS/4), and Indulgences (BS/5).
