Description
The minutes of meetings held, to arrange funding for, and to establish, a scheme of work to reorder the Quire in memory of Bishop Hamilton. The earliest minutes are of preliminary meetings. On 28th January 1870 the 'First Meeting of the full Committee of the Bishop Hamilton Memorial Committee' was held.
Matters considered by the Committee include: subscriptions to fund the proposed works: architectural changes to the Quire by George Gilbert Scott whose proposals included restoration of the stalls, subsellae, new front desks, a new throne, pavement, screens and sedilia. There are also references to the positioning of the organ, design of the choir screen, and restoration of the vaulting of the Quire roof by Clayton and Bell. There are copies of letters including one from Henrietta Sidney Lear expressing her disapproval of the proposed marble screen and proposing instead a metal screen. Some minutes of meetings of the Organ Sub-Committee 1875-1876. Notes at the back of the volume predominately relate to the screen together with a list of 'Minor Canon Candidates Feb 1880'.
Also contains a loose letter to Archdeacon Lear dated 15 September 1880 from Richard Henry Rigden who was appointed treasurer of the Committee in September 1871.
A typed transcript is kept with the volume.
