Description

Letter addressed from "Bartlett's Buildings, London" by John Hodgson, secretary to the Bishop-elect, to Joseph Elderton, 16 August 1791. "As the Confirmation of my Lord Bishop of Salisbury not stands fixed for tomorrow, and it is very probable that he will afterwards do Homage at St James's, I must request the favor of you to send me the Names of two of the Chapter to be named in his Proxy Inthronization". "When I can speak with certainty of the Bishop's Motions you shall certainly know them so far as they relate to Sarum". "By the Bishop's direction I kept back this Letter . . . the inclosed from his Lordship will shew that he has put the business of the proxy into a better way" (see CH/20/104/8).
