Description
"To the Worshipfull the Deane & Chapter of the Close of New Sarum".
"The humble petition of William Pennycourt of the same place Lay Viccar".
Pennycourt says that he is "under the burden of daily providing for and maintaining a considerable Family, and now in regard to the Excessive rate that is on Corne he is reduced to very great poverty insomuch that he cannot any further raise necessary and convenient Subsistence for his Family without the aid and assistance of your Worships".
He "implores", in consideration of his "afflicted case and deplorable Circumstances", the Dean and Chapter to advance him £4, to be repaid out of his future salary.
Most of the remainder of the sheet is filled with draft Chapter Acts dated variously in 1709, roughly written in a mix of English with some Latin, some crossed through. Those present at the meetings of Chapter include, as far as can be deciphered:
The Dean (John Younger, Dean 1705-1728);
Daniel Whitby (Precentor 1672-1726);
Thomas Wyatt (Canon Residentiary 1706-1726);
Isaac Walton (Canon Residentiary 1698-1719);
Michael Geddes (Canon Residentiary).
