"To the Dean & Chapter of the Cathedral Church of Sarum". "Whereas by the Statutes of the said Church still in force, TheChancellor of the Church is appointed to perform such Offices as cannot be carried out by Him, except He be of the Chapter; and is commanded to reside, and for that purpose hath Commons, & Dividend allotted to Him by the said Statutes: And whereas the said Chancellor hath no House wherein to perform His Residence: THerefore John Hoadly now installed Chancellor of the said Church, and Prebendary of Bricklesworth petitions, and demands to be admitted into the House now vacant, and into the Profit of Residence as appointed Him by the Statutes of the said Church, which all the Members if it have sworn on the Holy Gospels to observe." Signed "John Hoadly". Underneath, a note in Latin in a different hand, including the date 20 Apr 1713, perhaps recording discussion of the Petition in Chapter.
