Contains: (1) Letter to Dean Hamilton from Macdonald Broderick concerning the payment of £30 for the reversion of an acre of land in Melksham in 1851, dated 3 Apr 1877 (2) Letter from Macdonald Broderick concerning the acre of land in Melksham, dated 26 Apr 1877 (3) Notes headed 'B of Ely' relating to fire precautions particularly the water supply into the Cathedral including the statement that 'The Organ is the dangerous part of the Cathedral. The Hose in the North Transept would enable its internal mechanism to be deluged from the main by gravitation from the City Water Works.' Also briefly mentions Gurney stoves, lightening, petroleum, combustible stores, roofs, and windows, incomplete and undated. (4) Notes concerning an appointment to the vicarage of Britford, undated. (5) Letter to Dean Hamilton from Macdonald regarding the claim of Close parishioners to seats in the Cathedral, dated 5 Nov 1876 (6) Letter from James Hussey to Dean Hamilton congratulating him on the reopening of the Quire and enquiring about seating for Close inhabitants, 3 Nov 1876. (7) Copy letter from Fitzherbert Macdonald requesting a renewal of the lease on his house in the Close, dated 12 Dec 1873, with copy reply dated 15 Dec 1873. (8) Copy letter to Mr Jones from H P Hamilton acknowledging the receipt of a address concerning the retention of the title of canon, dated 28 May 1877 (9) Extract from Chapter minutes of 26 Aug 1789 concerning James Wyatt's plans for the Cathedral. (10) Letter from Bishop George to Dean George Boyle [?] re Lent sermons, his feelings on his place in the future administration of the Cathedral, and a chance meeting with Mrs Hamilton following her husband's death, dated 13 Nov 1880. (11) List of 7.30 Sunday morning services with numbers of attendees from advent Sunday 1869 to the Third Sunday in Lent 1871. (12) & (13) Letter, with accompanying envelope, to Archdeacon Hony from Thomas Verrinder (verger). Connects with (11). The letter states that there is only one frequent attendee at the 7.30 service, namely Mr Rogers, sometimes accompanied by his children, and lists the staff and other resources required to support the service, dated 21 Dec 1871.
