(8) 16 Feb 1852 (draft or copy letter?) addressed "Dear Sir", signed "W McD" (presumably Archdeacon Macdonald), "I have not failed to pay due attention to the observations of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for England on the accounts of the Revenues of the suspended Canonries . . .". (9) 1 Mar 1852 - to Archdeacon Macdonald from James J Chalk (with original envelope), "I have . . . to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 18th ultimo and I am directed to point out to you certain particulars in which [the Commissioners] desire further information"; "The Commissioners desire to know the grounds upon which they have been wholly excluded from participating in the Options is respect of both Suspended Canonries". (10) 5 Mar 1852 - (draft or copy letter?) addressed "Dear Sir" from "Sarum" in a hand and on paper similar to that of the 16 Feb letter, so probably by Archdeacon Macdonald, "With reference to your favour of the 1st March I beg to say that I will request the Master of the Fabric to furnish me with the details of this account"; "The [grounds?] on whcih the Commissioners have been excluded from participating in the Options in respect of the suspended Canonries are these - they perform no duties in the Church, they keep no residence, they [?] no hospitality [?] consequently are not entitled to participate in the accommodation which the Options afford to the resident Canons"; "the Dean and Chapter have deemed it most proper [?] profit accrued from the departure [?] should be devoted to the sustentation of the Fabric; and the authority by which it has been thus [appropriative?] is that of the Dean & Chapter to whom it has always by the Constitution & customs of their Church belonged". (11) 12 Mar 1852 - (draft or copy letter?) to James J Chalk from Archdeacon Macdonald, "The member of Chapter who keeps the Fabric being absent from Salisbury at present I am unable to send you the account"; he then gives some more financial information and says "I submit I am . . . entitled to my full discharge". A Sunday School & Cottage for the Caretaker of the Church has since been added. The total cost is rather more than 4,500£".
