Description

Items 104-108: a group of loose documents interspersed between "sub-bundle" 4 and "sub-bundle" 5. 104. 24 May 1841. Letter from a [J H ?] Knight of "Hartwell near East Grinsted" asking "where I shall be able to obtain every particular" about "a Vacancy in Bishop Ward's College of Matrons" which has been advertised. 105. 22 May 1841. Letter from William Dansey, Rector of Donhead St Andrew, also relating to the "advertisement of a vacancy in Bp Ward's College"; he writes on behalf of Mrs Dowland, widow of the vicar of Broadwindsor, who is "verging on 50" and "living with a poor and aged father"; "I procured admission for Mrs Dowland's two boys into the Clergy Orphan School" but "there is every probability of her father's decease, & herslf being homeless". Endorsed on the verso "Mr Dansey Widows' College". 106. 30 Dec 1847. Letter from John Lowder at Derry Hill Parsonage. "I have received from Mr Alford a £10 Bank of England Note in lieu of the Cheque which I returned a few weeks ago. With many thanks for the same." Endorsed on the verso "Mr Lowder". 107. 3 Feb 1846. Contract note for sales by Ellis [Reeve?], Broker, Warnford Court [London EC2] on behalf of "Messrs [Brodie?] & Co". 108. 6 Jan 1830. Letter from J L Alford to John Fisher, Vicar of Osmington and Archdeacon of Berkshire. "Expecting that you would attend the Chapter held this morning" the letter deals with a number of items of property-related business that Archdeacon missed by his absence, concerning the "Kenton Estate . . . in the Neighbourhood of Exeter"; "Hurst cum Molendine" and Chaddington. Annexed is a calculation of the "Proposed Fine" for "Hurst with the Mill", which "consists of a Farm House and Buildings with a Grist Mill with . . .Water Meadow and Arable Land". Postmark "Salisbury Jan 6 1830">
