Description
"To the right worshipfull the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedrall Church of New Sarum", "The humble petiton of the Clothworkers of the same City".
The Clothworkers are "greatly impoverished by reason of the great want of milling of their cloth" and ask the Dean and Chapter "not to harken unto Edward Stevens" but "to graunt the water course now in question to Mr Bee whot is a good member unto the Citty and wisheth the welfare and prosperity thereof".
There are some barely legible signatures, including Clement [Whatby?], [Lancelot?], [Davis?], Thomas [Very or Pavy?], [Margaret Baker widdo?].
A Matthew Bee was Mayor of Salisbury in 1600 and 1632; a Matthew Bee is recorded as having rented a fishery at Friars' Bridge in 1619.
