Description

Letter to "my . . . good Land Lordes" the Dean and Chapter of Salisbury from Nicholas Gilberd "alias Webber" at Bowringsleigh, near Kingsbridge in Devon. The letter is about a dispute relating to tithes in Malborough, a village also "called by the name of Marrydole" in the parish of Alvington, between Kingsbridge and Salcombe. Gilberd says that "a suit was brought . . . against me in the Exchequer" but "was ordered in Court to be dismissed"; he disputes the way in which his opponents have drawn the boundaries, whether of "Marrydole" or the parish of Alvington itself.
