Description

"The demand of Humfrey Henchman in the behalfe of Dr Dee & himselfe for certaine Records to be permitted to the view and perusall of them, or either of them, according to directions given by the L[ord] Archbishop of Canterbury his grace & the Lord Bishop of Durham" (see CH/20/54/1). Henchman asks that he and Dee should be permitted to see "such books & orders of the Church as concerne the right of Residence now in question". He also asks that the Chapter Clerk should "write out all such statutes, Orders, Letters & Acts as we require touching this cause" or that he and Dee should be permitted to engage a notary to transcribe these. "Also we desire to know of whom we shall require the forenamed books and Orders, and who shall stand by to see that we looke over no other Acts than those which may concern the present question & difference".
