The Dean's letter, addressed to "His Majesty the King" at Clarence House, begins "With humble duty may I offer the condolences of the Chapter of Salisbury Cathedral upon the death of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II". The letter records The Queen's "extraordinary service" to the Nation and to the Church, her visits to Salisbury, and the "steady stream of mourners" welcomed to the Cathedral since the announcement of her death on 8 September 2022. The response from the Private Secretary's Office at Buckingham Palace conveys The King's thanks and sends "his warmest good wishes".
