Description

Copy court order from Michaelmas Term, fifth regnal year of James I. There is a charge of £890-13-4 on the Rectory of Hilton, Dorset, payable at £13-6-8 for 67 years. John Childe, Farmer, of the Rectory, has agreed to appear at court on 20 November to pay the arreas. However, while the Rectory has been supposed to belong to the Monastery of Abbotsbury, it actually belonged, "long before the dissolution of the said monastery", to the Dean and Chapter of Salisbury. Consideration of John Childe's liability is deferred until the Easter Term while time is taken to search the records. With two extracts from court records.
