Description

Letter "to my very loving friends the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedrall Church of Sarum" signed "G: Cant:" (George Abbot, 1562-1633; Archbishop of Canterbury, 1611-1633), Lambeth, 25 May 1620. George Abbott refers to James I's letter to the Dean and Chapter, 6 May 1618 (CH/20/93), about "the petition of Doctor Moseley, concerning his desire of obtaining a residentiarie place amongst you". "I do require you that you advertise mee in writing as soone as conveniently you can, what the reason is why Dr Moseley has not according to His Majestie's letters written in his behalf obtained a residentiarie place". The mandate ordering John Moselely's installation to a canonry and the prebend of Wilsford and Woodford, dated 1 Nov 1616, is at PR/WW/3. Presumably that canonry did not carry residentiary rights, which are now being sought on John Moseley's behalf. With a summary by Penelope Rundle, Archive Volunteer (late 2010s).
