Description

William Laud (1573-1645), Bishop of Bath and Wells, 1626-1628, and also Dean of the Chapel Royal from 1626, writes from Whitehall: "There is one place of a Base voyd in His Majesties Chappel Royal"; "His Majesties pleasure" is that Thomas Rayment, "one that hath a place in the church of Salisbury", should be appointed. He may continue to sing at Salisbury when he is not singing in London, receiving the same income as before. With a summary by Penelope Rundle, Archive Volunteer, late 2010s.
