Description

Letter signed by Charles II "at our Court of Oxford", 11 Jan 1666 (1665 Old Style), "To Our Trusty and Wellbeloved the Deane and Chapter of Our Cathedrall Church of Sarum". "Wheras we have lately granted unto Thomas Lambert Clerk & Batchelor in Divinity, one of Our Chaplains in Ordinary, the Prebend of South Grantham also Grantham Australis in Our County of Lincolln, & founded in Our Cathedrall Church of Sarum, then void & in Our gift by the promotion of Doctor Alexander Hyde to the Bishoprick of Sarum; and wheras we have likewise collated upon the dais Thomas Lambert that house in the Close at Salisbury wherein the said Dr Alexander Hyde did lately dwell: Our will & pleasure is, and we do hereby command, that forthwith upon the receipt of these Our Letters you admit him the said Thomas Lambert Residentiart of Our said Cathedrall Church, to enjoy the said house together with a residentiaries place there, and all the rights, members, priviledges, profits & appurtenances thereunto belonging". "By his Majesties command, Will Morice". Thomas Lambert (c1616-1694) held the prebend of Grantham Australis, 1666-1694, and was a Canon Residentiary; he was Archdeacon of Sarum, 1674-1694, and domestic chaplain to Charles II.
