Description

Letter signed by Charles II "at our Court at Whitehall", "To Our Trusty & Welbeloved the Deane and Chapter of Our Cathedrall Church of Sarum". "Whereas humble suite hath been made unto us that We would recommend Jospeh Kelsey . . . unto you to be chosen into a Canon Residentiary's place in that Our Cathedrall Church of Sarum, We have thought fit and are graciously pleased for his better encouragement in his Profession . . . to condescend thereunto, And We do therefore hereby in a particular manner recommend the said Joseph Kelsey unto you, to be chosen into the next Canon Residentiary's place that shall become voyd". Joseph Kelsey (d. 1710), Fellow of Queen's College, Cambridge, was Warden of St John's Hospital, Heytesbury in 1686 and Archdeacon of Sarum (1695-1710). One worm hole through the double thickness of the document, not significantly affecting the text. With a summary by Penelope Rundle, Archive Volunteer, late 2010s.
