Description

Rent Roll of rents received from properties probably in Salisbury, 1531.The head of the document is missing, but a section is headed "Exposita per me Ricardum Arche"; Richard Arche was Prebendary of Faringdon and at some date Treasurer of the Cathedral. The document lists rents arranged by their original grantors, including John Waltham (Bishop 1388-1395), Thomas Ayleward, Sir John Nugge and William Teyntwell, with the names of current tenants. The Roll lists rents received from properties described as outside the north gate (of the Close, presumably) and from tenements and rooms within the Close, some "supra gradum" (above stairs?); from stables "Abbacia exterior"; and from a tenement called "le meltynghowse" occupied by John Cutler. Also listed are rents from a tenement in the Manor of Ugford St James and from "Mauwardynges Courte" (Mawarden Court) in Stratford sub Castle.
