Description
This concerns both the Choristers and the Vicars Choral. The title in Latin is 'Chartae Tangentes Choristos [et] Vicarios Eccl[es]ia Sarum.' The item has been partially repaired, but part is missing and part is difficult to read due to staining. It summarises deeds dated between 1344 and 1657 which relate to property: a 1344 indenture which states that Roger de Martivall Bishop of Sarum in his last testament bequeathed to the Choristers and Vicars £500, so that the Choristers would [receive] 100s and the Vicars £40 annually forever; a c1348 charter in which the Dean and Chapter [demise unto Robert] de Baldock [the manor of] Melksham for £8 (text obscured); a lease dated 1657 from the Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter to Thomas Hoppegood of New Sarum feltmaker of a tenement and garden in Castle Street for 40 years under 13s 4s rent; and a charter dated c1348 relating to lands which William Was and his wife held.
