Description
Counterpart of indenture made between John Bampton Clerk, Canon Residentiary and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part, and Francis Edmonds of Tingswick [Tingewick] in the County of Buckinghamshire of the other part. The said Warden and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said Francis Edmonds their corner tenement or tenements and kitchen and also their other tenement with the appurtenances formerly in the tenure of Andrew Baden and now in the tenure of Roger Staples in New Sarum, the marketplace there where wool and yarn are sold being on the north part, lands belonging to the Warden and Dean and Chapter formerly in the tenures of Henry Hannam and Christopher Battnow in the tenure of William Naish on the south part, the Guildhall of the Bishop and certain lands of the Warden and Dean and Chapter formerly in the tenures of Andrew Baden and Mrs Mary Ewer and now in the tenure of Francis Edmonds with the city prison called the Grate and with the common stream or watercourse there on the east part, and the King's highway leading out of the Great Marketplace into Fish Row and Butcher Row on the west part. To have and to hold for 40 years. The annual rent was £5, 14s, 8d to be paid at the four usual feasts of the year in equal portions. Sealed and delivered, being first stamped, in the presence of Eli[s]a Mede and John Mede. The item is endorsed 'Choristers Lease to the Rev[erend] Mr. Edmonds' and 'Counterpart.'
