Description

Indenture made between James Proctor Canon Residentiary and Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and John Graye [Grey] of the City of New Sarum in the county of Wiltshire Surgeon of the other part. The said James Proctor and the Dean and Chapter grant unto John Grey their tenement with the appurtenances where the said John Grey lives in New Sarum between the lands belonging to James Proctor and the Dean and Chapter now in the tenure of John Luxmore on the east part, the lands belonging to James Proctor and the Dean and Chapter now in the occupation of Thomas Marshall on the west part, the lands belonging to the Bishop of Salisbury called the guyld hall [Guildhall] on the south part and the yarn marketplace on the north part. Also James Proctor and the Dean and Chapter grant to John Grey their kitchen with the appurtenances now in the occupation of John Grey abutting upon the [prison] (text obscured) of the City called the [Grate] on the east part, the land belonging to James Proctor and the Dean and Chapter in the tenure of John Luxmore on the west part, the Guidlhall on the south part and the yarn marketplace on the north part. To have and to hold for 61 years. The annual rent was 26s, 8p, and for the kitchen 4s at the four usual terms of the year. There is an additional sheet attached of the same date in Latin which states that John Grey of New Sarum Surgeon and John Sylvester of the same city Barber are bound by Jacob Proctor Clerk and Custos Choristarum and the Dean and Chapter to pay £20.
