Description

Indenture made between Thomas Hyde Canon Residentiary and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and Henry Hammond of New Sarum Bookseller of the other part. The said Thomas Hyde and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said Henry Hammond their corner tenement sometimes two tenements with the appurtenances now in the tenure of Anthony Wilkinson and Richard Bowden in New Sarum in a certain street or place there called the Fishrowe [Fish Row] between the Guildhall of the Bishop as in right of his Bishopric and the lands of the Warden and Dean and Chapter now in the tenure of James Harwood on the north part, the King's highway leading out and from the wood market into Fish Row on the west part, the lands belonging to the Warden and Dean and Chapter now in the tenure of John [Fawconer] on the east part and Fish Row on the south part. To have and to hold for 40 years. The annual rent was £4, 4s at the four usual terms of the year in equal portions. Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of John Johnson, [?William] Barford and [?Ma] Johnson. The document is endorsed 'Corner House [near] Guildhall 1661.'
