Description

Indenture made between John Bampton Canon Residentiary and Master Warden or Governor of the Choristers and the Dean and Chapter of the one part and James Bartlett of New Sarum in the county of Wiltshire Parchment Maker and Executor of the last will and testament of James Bartlett late of New Sarum Parchment Maker his father deceased of the other part. The said John Bampton and Dean and Chapter grant unto the said James Bartlett their tenement and garden belonging to it in New Sarum in a street there called Tanners Street containing in breadth on the north and south sides 36ft and in length on the east and west sides 176.5ft abutting upon the lands formerly of John Batten now of Bristow sometime called the Fox and Goose and now in the occupation of Austin Phelps, Thomas Lake and Browne on the east part, the lands late of Mr Theophilus Dyer and now in the tenure of the said James Bartlett on the west part, the lands of John Rolfe commonly called the 'Gray Fryers' on the south part, and the said street or King's highway on the north part. To have and to hold for 40 years. The annual rent was 20s at the four usual terms of the year in equal portions. Signed, sealed and delivered being first lawfully stamped in the presence of John Piper and Thomas Frome.
